When barley ripens, before the heads naturally droop, the long spikes on the seeds stand vertical and tinted at the tips. Capturing the effect of a field of this growing grain is nigh impossible, as even the slightest of wind movements stirs the plants and sends waves of erratic movement across the surface of the field. Images from one early summer on the top of Charlton Down in Dorset where it catches the breeze.
Ah but the sound is lovely!

I always find the waves on these fields to be mesmerising but, as you say, impossible to capture on still photos

There is something about these fields. Time visible in its motion, maybe? Nothing is static. And what beautiful greens and golds.

Yes, I know what you mean, Emma. A lovely sound. I tried to capture that in a short video some years back.
