At Studland on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset the natural habitats transition from the sand of the beach and dunes through heathland to wet woodlands and freshwater lakes. This is the first in a series of images showing what the countryside looked like on a walk on 6 September 2021. It was a very hot and bright day for early autumn and I kept to the relative cool among the trees as much as possible. In this shot the wonderful purple hues of the heathers on the dune heathland. with scattered gorse bushes and birch trees, are viewed from the shade of the woods.
The heather looks very beautiful in your picture.

Hi, Philip. Yes, it is looking good right now. I am just realising that there are probably several species of heather there. I must get a closer look next time.
