This plant is unobtrusive on the meadow floor, easy to overlook, easy to trample, I think this must be Salad Burnet (Sanguisorba minor) which is similar in general appearance at a distance to the flower head of some plantains but is a distinctive red. The small globular shaped head is studded with tiny red buds that open into green flowers producing red stamens. It looks lovely as it develops and the stamens droop and shed their pollen.
