The Dog Roses have started opening this last couple of days. They look especially beautiful as they emerge from the buds with loosely-crumpled petals of a deeper pink than when fully open, though all have a delicate blush. Soon the hedgerows will be resplendent with them flowering en masse.

I like dog roses, I have this idea that they are the original wild rose, before people domesticated them. I don’t know if that’s true?
