The beetle collection was on display at the Botanical Gardens in Montreal. They are wonderfully jewel-like. There have been times in the past when these iridescent beetle wings have been embroidered onto dresses with stunning effect for haute couture – but devastation of the species. NB Just discovered that people are still doing it – using beetle wings on clothing.
Oh. My. God! The dress from 1860s was very beautiful and I guess you’d assume that attitudes were different back then but I was horrified that you can still buy a packet of beetle wings to sew into clothes!??!!
Great collection of varied images – the one of all the pinned bugs is especially arresting.

I think this is my favorite collection so far. I love insects and your photos portray them as otherworldly or jewel-like, mysteries that they are.

It is inexcusable ☹️ and very sad.

Just been to a lecture today on ‘Imperfect Batesian Mimicry’ (killer title “Not the Sincerest Form of Flattery). I’m not sure #10 will be a success…
