I am wondering what the pink things are in the middle of the shells?

Hi Denzil. The pink objects are capsules containing eggs that have just been laid by one of the dog whelk molluscs.

I had the same question. They aren’t worried about the eggs being seen, are they? A special pink!🙂

The eggs often form extensive patches. They change colour when the eggs are released or hatch out. I’ll see if I can look out some pictures of that.
