Woodland Autumn TWD 5 – Continuing a walk in Dorset woodland on a sunny autumn day. The tall beech and chestnut trees at the beginning of the walk give way to other trees like birch, pine, holly, and oak as you walk further east, and the habitat changes from woodland to heathland. At the boundary of the two habitats is a small shallow pond reflecting the rushes and the coloured overhead leaves; and fly agaric toadstools provide a bright splash of red on the banks.
Lovely photograph of an old Beech Wood. Reminds me of countryside walks through a local beech wood as a teenager surrounded by bluebells. Good memories.
Many thanks,
Trevor.

Thank you, Trevor. I remember this one with bluebells too. It is a fabulous place.

I was so pleased to have found them. In past years I had found many types of fungi there but on this occasion there were few. I am not certain if I visited too early or too late.

Yes, a lot of luck involved in being in the right place at the right time.
