Heath SBJC 1: Aspects of heathland habitat on sand dunes in autumn. Tussocks of dessicated heather, occasionally with flowers, and underlying patches of mosses and lichen. Gorse, birch and pine. Small groups of trees stand tall in dune hollows near the sea while stands of stunted and twisted trees cluster with their roots in water near the ponds and lakes.
I love the twisty tangly trees.

Thank you, Philip. Heathland habitat is so much a part of the Dorset landscape but I have also been neglecting to visit it in recent years.
