Apples, plums, and pears are growing in the Community Orchard. There are still a few blossoms too, sometimes on the same twig as the developing fruit. Quite a few of the trees have leaves attacked by insect pests like aphids, mites, and sawflies. But the long spell of good weather has ensured that most of the flowers have been fertilised and a bumper crop is growing at this time. High winds this weekend may be bad news for the young fruits but fingers crossed most will survive. The orchard is a tranquil place to spend a little time and the views over the open fields towards small wooded areas and hedges is stunning.
