First I saw the leaves, then one or two small white flowers, then I remembered the fruit that we have picked in the past – and to which I look forward in a few months time. Wild strawberries. Tiny but tasty.

I remember these growing in my grandmother’s yard.

Now I am relying on others to bring me food, it has a fascination it didn’t used to have when I could feed myself! These strawberries look delicious.

They are so small. You need quite a few to get a true taste. That bowl of wild strawberries was smaller than a tea cup. We have been staying at home since 11th March and shopping for food these days is a strange affair with deliveries being difficult to get, and the food that arrives is often a bit of a lucky dip – you never know what substitutions you are going to get. Interesting but not short of food yet.

Thanks for the memory nudge. I was shocked when I tasted my first wild strawberry, expecting less, not more, flavor than the cultivated varieties. Yum!

A tiny taste on the tongue. You need quite a few for a mouthful. A bit like those “amuse-bouches” that they serve in posh restaurants before the meal to tantalise the taste buds and get the juices flowing.

That’s similar to our experience, too!
