Just some unidentified microorganism causing strange things to happen in the tree growth. I have just noticed a tree near my home with something most peculiar going on and producing odd excrescences and twiggery.

Witches brooms (or similar) are not uncommon in the UK. I have just discovered some growing in a tree within the small area into which I am still able to wander whilst in lock-down because of the coronavirus.
