The fundamental pleasures of a wonderful sunny day out at the seaside on the English south coast basically haven’t changed for the last hundred years – the feel of the sand beneath your feet, the sound of the wind and the waves, the rippled vistas, sun bathing in a deckchair, a bucket and spade or a paddle with the family, birds feeding on the strandline, and exhilarated dogs splashing through the waves and tearing around the beach.
