Leaf not changing colour gradually over the entire surface but dying progressively from the margins inwards. The contrasting border at this stage in early autumn looks quite attractive highlighted by the sun light.

Such an edge necrosis of a leaf might indicate that some key nutrient (mineral) is missing. It is used up by the cells nearer to the center of the leaf and not enough of it is reaching the outmost cells, causing them to die.

Thank you, Nannus. That is a very interesting suggestion which would account for this dying off around the edge of the leaves.
