For a couple of days this week, on bright sunny winter days of very high and low tides, with strong prevailing winds, and recent freshwater run-off from the land onto the beach, the sand patterns, textures, and colours at Rhossili were amazingly varied. Here is a selection of the wonderful sand effects I observed on the shore – photographed before they disappeared with the following tide or the next downpour.

I thought the sand patterns, particularly the first one with red coloured sediment, were pretty neat too. My son bought me some water colour paints and brushes recently and I think I will use these images as inspiration for my first attempts at painting – but I know that Nature is bound to be the better artist.
