This sea shell has a secret. It is the new home of a Hermit Crab, Pagurus bernhardus (Linnaeus). He is very shy. I had to wait very patiently for him to come out of his shell – and then he nearly ran into the lens of the camera!

My son will love this. He has been itching to get a Hermit Crab as a pet.

They are cute – but I understand it can be a bit difficult getting the collar and lead on Hermit Crabs to take them for walks, and they are always so fussy when it comes to changing shells.

I have done it 11 times so far….
I meant more the hermit thing, really. A cottage in the woods miles from anywhere….

The “hermit thing” can be really appealing sometimes. I like being in my shell.

I also found that if I used my mouse to scroll down quite fast I had a little film of him emerging which was very cute.
Sometimes I think I’d like a suit of armour!
