Lichen on sandstone: Lichens on a weathered sandstone boulder at South Beach, Studland Bay, Dorset, UK, on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site (1) 

I thought these beautiful patterns and colours, created by lichens on a weathered sandstone boulder high on the seashore, were wonderful natural abstract designs – reminding me of starry constellations in the night sky.
