Just a snapshot of a seagull on a pontoon in Weymouth Harbour, Dorset, UK, which is part of the Jurassic Coast. It was hoping for a free fish meal – either from the couple eating fish and chips on the quayside or from the fisherman gutting the catch on the other side of the water.

  1. Last year I made a large painting of just the head of a similar seagull. I especially love their light green eyes. I hope he managed to at least get a taste of the fish and chips πŸ™‚

  2. What a character!
We used to get mugged by gulls when we ate fish and chips at Whitby but it became amusing to chuck chips high in the air and watch the dsiplay of acrobatics.
Have you ever read Richard Bach’s Jonathan Livingstone Seagull?

  3. There are notices up everywhere around the harbour forbidding the deliberate feeding of gulls because they are such a nuisance. However, the gulls did take advantage of the fish gutting activity. I’ll expand this subject with more pictures on the blog at a later date.

  4. Notices warn people against feeding the gulls because they attack agressively and steal food if encouraged by feeding. But the gulls all look very healthy from eating the waste produced by fishing activities – it’s a vibrant little working harbour at Weymouth. I have a copy of Jonathan Livingston – it’s a great book. I’ll have to re-read it.
