We have a nice piece of wood like that. I didn’t know it was caused by a fungus.
Thought I would put in in a painting one day.

I didn’t know that there was a word for this effect. I’ve often seen similar logs etc in the the woods, especially in an area I go to that is a flood plain and the trees slowly succumb and their bark falls off. Plus they usually have a lot of insect holes which I love the patterns they make.

Happy Christmas, Claudia. The patterns in wood caused by spalting are valued by wood turners as long as the wood is still basically sound. I often see bowls and chopping boards made from wood with patterns like these. Have a lovely day.

Wood carvers and turners find wood like this attractive. Natural abstract art.
