This Giant Polypore fungus (Meripilus giganteus) is growing on the decayed stump of an old tree next to the local cricket ground. It looks quite spectacular in the sunlight and seems to attract insects like beautiful emerald bodied flies to an inner recess.
We had these coming up around the sawn off stump of a rotted Copper Beech.

The crumbling stump on which this specimen was growing might also have been a copper beech as there are quite a few nearby.

Wonderful images. The first one looked like Chicken of the Woods – easy to get confused between the two.
