It did come in very quickly. I think the wind driving it was about 70 miles an hour. There were times in the week when I thought I would be blown off my feet.
The foam is caused by the breakdown of all the planktonic organisms in the seawater by the great agitation resulting from the gale force winds. It is harmless. Larger organisms were lying broken on the beach too – from sea gooseberries and jellyfish to birds and seals. There were three large adult seals and a small pup. These air breathing sea mammals often drown if held down too long by the turbulence or if they are flung against the rocks and lose consciousness.
Wow the sea dose come in rather quick , you can see how it can catch people out if they are not careful….
