The Mareeba Wetlands are a gorgeous sight with vast beds of reeds and pink lily flowers fringing a lake populated by water-loving birds that include white egrets and darters.

Yes, the large dark bird is a Darter. It is much larger than a cormorant and has this incredible long flexible neck -almost serpentine.
