These are not random patterns. The patterns reflect specific functions, intrinsic physical and chemical compositions, different crystal structures, life history, post-mortem conditions, and taphonomy of the shells. All the specimens were the same species of mollusc, found in the same general location but their appearance tells of different individual experience. Seen at this level of detail, the varying designs, colours, and textures seem like abstract art.

Hi, I have an image of what I believe is a juvenile oyster shell attached to an empty larger oyster shell with three small tear shaped spots on the smooth dome. ChatGpt claims that these are adductor muscle scars of the muscles on the inside, showing on the outside, like a shadow. Is this factually correct? Thanks, Lynn.
