Female roe deer at night by the wildlife pond at Charlton Down Nature Area in Dorset where we are trying to improve the biodiversity. The pond was rebuilt and refilled with water earlier this year and has attracted many kinds of invertebrate and vertebrate creatures but some visitors only take advantage of the new facility at night and out of sight for the most part. I risked placing a trail camera on the wooden footbridge over the pond where it was in plain sight to capture these infra-red images and am so pleased to be able to see these lovely gentle animals. I often see their footprints in the mud in daytime and notice where they have cropped the tops of hogweed and cow parsley. They visited twice during the night about three hours apart.
Congrats, Jessica, what a success! By the way, we have roe deer as regular visitors in our garden. The last two years we even had a doe giving birth to her fawns in our rough pasture. It was a pleasure to watch them—although they devastated our kitchen garden. 😅

Thank you, Markus. Lovely to hear about the deer in your garden. I hope I will be fortunate enough to capture the young deer on camera when hey eventually appear in our Nature Area.

How lovely! What a delight to see them. We have roe deer round here too, and always stop to watch them. I often wonder how many visit our garden at night.
