Oxwich Bay fixed dune vegetation in Gower, South Wales, May 2024, showing the frequency of small stunted or immature trees such as oak, sycamore, hawthorn, crab apple and birch on the flanks of dunes, as well as more mature trees in clumps growing in slacks (hollows where the water table reaches the surface).

  1. Amazing vegetation, Jessica. I especially like those clumps of trees growing in the slacks. They ought to be a refuge for many animals.

  2. Thanks, Markus. Yes, the slacks are very special habitats. There are several in the area, of different sizes and degree of development. They are well worth investigation for the animal communities they could support.
