It was midmorning yesterday before the autumnal mist dissipated and the sun came through. A walk in the fields revealed just how many spiders must lurk in the dying vegetation because it seemed as if every surface was festooned with spider webs. Each web and fine filament carried beads of dew glistening in the light.

I love seeing spiderwebs reveled like this. I have also thought about how many are living right under our noses, almost invisibly, until chance reminds us of their presence.

Too many to count. Perhaps it’s best not to think too much about it – it’s a bit like knowing that microscopic mites live on the human eyelashes.

You’re so right about the light, Jessica. We had a similar spider-web day here in Ohio a few weeks ago, but I must say that you had the better light—and better spider webs.
