Woodgrain patterns on weathered plywood used as a hording at Branksome. To make the thin layers of wood that are used in plywood, a device like a giant pencil sharpener is employed to shave a thin continuous layer from the timber, giving these interesting natural patterns.

We have no time to stop and stare. But your amazing photographs arrest the eye, And mind. It would seem the ancient Egyptians worked out that gluing thin sheets of wood together with the grain rotated created something stronger and more durable than a dead tree. And possibly no less beautiful.
