Natural patterns and texture in floating seafoam

Sea Foam at Yachats 2 – Seafoam is a kind of natural scum produced by the agitation of the sea water, particularly when it contains higher concentrations of dissolved organic matter (including proteins, lignins, and lipids) derived from sources such as the offshore breakdown of algal blooms. The foam I photographed here in Oregon on a relatively quiet summer day was nothing compared to an event in New South Wales when the shore became known as the “Cappuccino Coast“.
