The wind blowing sand by Rhossili dunes

Gale force wind driving sand grains across the beach at Rhossili on the Gower Peninsula, eroding the seaward-facing edge of the marram-covered dunes, and accumulating as new sand drifts (December 2013).

  1. I was out in similar conditions on a beach not so long ago, and it was actually difficult to breath when walking into the wind, it was blowing so hard into our faces. Weird sensation.

  2. Usually this happens to me when I am well wrapped up. It is always the camera that is most affected. The very fine grains have got into the zoom mechanism of one camera, I can hear a slight crunch when I focus in on objects. I am glad to have the addition of the small waterproof and shockproof camera – it zooms but all the moving bits are within the casing.
