The wind blowing sand along Rhossili Beach

A low, thin layer of sand being driven by high wind across the sandy beach at Rhossili in winter. The video clip taken below the Old Rectory or Parsonage on the solifluction terrace at the foot of Rhossili Down, Gower, South Wales, December 2013.

  1. I had to look up the word ‘solifluction’ as I had never seen the word before 😉
Looking at your windy sand photographs brings to mind snow as I’ve seen it eddy and wind-drift to a sheet around trees and low growth. As always, beautifully raw photos. I can nearly feel the sting of impact, and they make me want to rub my eyes…

I’ve shared your blog with a wonderful young artist. I’ll share with you what he creates as a result!

  2. Thank you, Abbey. I love to re-examine my photos and video clips when I am not able to be out on the seashore. It brings the lovely experiences all back to me. I know what you mean about the sting of the sand, I am lucky that I wear glasses, but unfortunately my camera lenses and moving parts don’t seem to like the salty air and sand at all.

  3. Great picture. I was once stuck on the sand at Port Eynon when the wind got up. Very painful.
I had to carry two heavy children who were also being lashed by the sand. Looked nice. Felt nasty! Bob
