Ferriters Cove 81 – Could this be a Silurian plant fossil? One of several seen in Ferriters Cove Formation rock of the Dunquin Group at the north end of Ferriters Cove on the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland along the Wild Atlantic Way.
I have found rocks like this too – on Kimmeridge beach in Dorset. The frond-like plant outline appears to be painted on, but it isn’t from lichen or erosion. Very intriguing!

Thanks for the comment, Jo. I must go and have another look at Kimmeridge to see if I can find them too! The only things like them that I have seen there are thin membranous remains of branching seaweeds, desiccated and stuck to the rocks, not anything integral with the rock like the “plants” I saw at Ferriters Cove.
