The stones are derived from a variety of Silurian strata, not only from this cove but also from the coast further to the north which is also composed of Silurian Period rocks.

  1. I’d like to be able to identify the exact nature and origin of every pebble I see but I have to content myself with photographing as many as possible and try to find out about them later. Not an easy task. Not many really useful books but one I have come across is helpful in a general way and full of lovely pebble and beach stone images (captured on a scanner apparently):
