The dark side of beauty…
Too many animals are caught in drifting nets or are killed by other trash floating in the sea. Nice pictures, but they are part of a sad story.
It is true – sad. Not everything in the world of nature is cute bunnies and pretty butterflies. The environment has by default to have equal amounts of death and decomposition. Lots of the flotsam on the beaches that I photograph is to a large extent unavoidable. The fishing nets, ropes and plastic crates, rubber gloves and boots often get lost overboard; or nets full of fish have to be cut loose when the winches jam (to avoid the boat capsizing). Nevertheless, the resulting flotsam can have detrimental effects on wildlife but at the same time also provide new habitats for marine organisms.
Dogfish net it looks like? Where was this taken? http://searunner.wordpress.com

Well, there were certainly lots of dead dogfish in this net left high and dry on Rhossili beach on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales
