I thought I had better post something less controversial and less likely to trigger phobic reactions – but I am now waiting to hear from those with aversions to large ducks!!
Well, the anatidaephobes among us suffer “a pervasive, irrational fear that… no matter where they are or what they are doing, a duck watches.” I’ve got a feeling that if fluffy toy ducks cause this, one would be in real trouble…
Given what you say, it seems more likely that this huge toy duck was deliberately thrown away by an anatidaephobe rather than merely lost – making it jetsam rather than flotsam.
Hello, Karen
I am afraid that I don’t know of a specific name for small striped pebbles. A small, striped pebble could be one of many different kinds of rock type. The colour, the hardness, the chemical composition, and the texture are all clues that would be used to identify what kind of rock a pebble is made of. Also, one would tend to assume that most pebbles on a beach came from nearby rock formations or those upstream of the shore. This would mean that a bit of research was needed into the local geology. So identification is not straight forward.
If you have a pebble that you would like to know more about, perhaps you could take it or send it to a local museum with a natural history department that might be able to advise you?
Hope this helps a little.

Would you know what a small, striped pebble or stone is called, from the beach or other place?
