These wonderful plant sculptures are currently being exhibited at the Jardin Botanique de Montreal. “Gorillas at Risk!” is an allusion to the “Gorillas in the Mist” of Dian Fossey fame. Dian studied this endangered sub-species of Mountain Gorilla over three decades in Africa’s Virunga Mountains which straddle the southwest Uganda, Rwanda, and Democratic Republic of Congo borders. Only 800 individuals of this sub-group are thought to survive, and the future of all species and sub-species of gorillas is threatened. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (UICN) says they are all endangered or critically endangered.

Oh how cool is that?! Love it. Wish I were a gardner. I hate that any animal is at risk or endangered. People are disgusting.

I thought it was a strange but interesting and attractive gardening art form – with a message. Neat.
