East Cliff at West Bay near Bridport (3) - The cliff is made of sandstone of the Bridport Sand Formation which is an Upper Lias rock of the Jurassic period. Wind-blown sand has weathered the rock to leave bands of harder calcareous sandstone protruding like jagged ledges. The softer sandstone layers become progressively thinner towards the top of the cliff.
