Otter Shells (7) – White interior surface of the right valve of a Common Otter Shell (Lutraria lutraria) showing the characteristic pattern of scars where the soft tissues had been attached. Most noticeable are the two approximately rounded depressions near the dorsal edge where the adductor muscles were located These scars are connected below by the pallial line where the mantle was attached; with the deeply inset notch of the pallial sinus marking the former position of the siphons.
