The gorse on the cliffs at Rhossili, as you walk towards the Worms Head, looks glorious when it is in full yellow bloom. The gorse flowers always add large splashes of colour to enhance the view and brighten any day regardless of weather. Sadly, on my May visit, the gorse that cloaks the slopes going down to the Worms Head Causeway had been reduced to blackened sticks by fire. The tangled skeletons of the bushes stood out in stark contrast to the surrounding rocky scenery. The fire had evidently been devastating.  Formerly well hidden animal burrows, and the occasional small mammal skull, were revealed on the bare earth. However, the fire had evidently taken place some months earlier as there were signs of recovery in the habitat with young shoots of vividly green bracken sprouting up everywhere.
