Dunes at Oxwich 3 – Taking a closer look at the sand dune grassland habitat. The greatest delight of the dunes at Oxwich Bay during June 2021 was the number of orchids. There are several species commonly found in this location. I think that the ones in these photos are Pyramidal Orchids (Anacamptis pyramidalis). They love dry grassland and are usually associated with calcareous soils and stabilised sand dunes. The flowers are a deep pink with a 3-lobed lip and a long spur. They are arranged in dense conical or domed flowerheads.
