Here is a selection of some of the many items that I have seen over the years have been floating in the sea and have washed ashore on the beach as flotsam (as opposed to jetsam which is the collective term for items that have been deliberately thrown overboard).

but at least we seem to have lost most of those awfull lumps of tar, on our Gower beaches, that was impossible to remove from our clothes….

When was that happening? I wonder where it came from.

I have never worked out how readers can post photos in the comments box. You could e-mail it to me as an attachment at winderjssc@aol.com and I could post it for you.

That’s an amazing array of “stuff”!

Since communities and organisations have started the big beach clean events these kinds of objects are less likely to be found on beaches except immediately after storms. Most of these items were photographed on Rhossili and Whiteford Sands some time ago.

I’ve seen a bit of rubbish on Rhossili at the north end. Thank goodness for people doing beach cleans. Sadly too many people leave stuff on swansea beach just assuming someone else will pick it up!

It is a shame that people will litter so thoughtlessly.

Impressive variety… In the US, some conservation organisations have a slightly macabre thing with dolls / doll parts that wash up on shorebird survey beaches. They are remarkably prolific.

Not too certain what you are referring to but I would agree that lots of toys get lost on a day out at the beach, and then get washed out to sea. Dolls and their parts do look spooky in the sand.

Nothing tasteless! Just pics as a sub-head of ‘beach trash, plastic’
