Rethymnon Stone Wall 3

Detail of crystal pattern in a limestone wall

Rethymnon Stone Wall 3 – Detail of crystal pattern in a limestone wall of the Venetian fortress in Rethymnon on the island of Crete. The crystal patterns are thought to be the result of dissolution of the limestone and subsequent recrystallization during the weathering process over the centuries since the walls were built. Or maybe something else?
