Natural Curiosities 1 – A collection of natural objects displayed on my mantelpiece with a postcard of “The Pelicans” painting by the artist Angela Gladwell (angelagladwell.co.uk). Objects include iron-stained flints, a pebble with iron veins, an ammonite fossil made of iron pyrites, a shaman’s rattle made from oyster shells, a worn and stained dog cockle shell, a blackened saddle oyster shell showing adductor muscle scars and calcareous worm tube, and an old sting winkle shell riddled with sponge borings.
