Ancient Wood In Peat 9 – Ancient tree trunk in the eroding peat on the beach at Whiteford, Gower in South Wales, where a woodland once stood about 10, 000 years ago, but was drowned by rising sea levels. The trees were buried in anaerobic conditions, and the wood preserved in its original state, not fossilised, as the forest was submerged.
