I love your slide show and care taken photographing the same markers over years.
It could be worth analysing if it tells more than shore levels. What about nutrient levels? There were no green algae in the early shots but they become a feature from 2011. Any idea what might have changed?

Thank you for your interest in this sequence of photographs. I am not certain of the reason for the increase in algae in recent years. A couple of contributing factors come to mind. The nutrient levels in the area may have increased due to the concurrent exposure and weathering of the underlying peat and clay beds on the beach. I will be posting articles about these features shortly. Secondly, we have been experiencing noticeably warmer weather. Both of these factors are sufficient to account for the apparent increase in algae but are not necessarily the whole answer. (I do not know about levels of nutrients in the water although I believe reports have been written about the decline in the famously exploited cockle populations of the area thought to be due to an increase in sewage outfall into the estuary – population boom and bust).
