Porthmeor Rocks 35 – Natural colour, pattern, and texture in metamorphosed igneous intrusive rock dating from the Devonian Period on the west side of “The Island” (St Ives Head) on the east side of Porthmeor Beach at St Ives in Cornwall, England.

  1. It is fascinating isn’t it? These rocks were once formed deep within the earth’s crust from molten lava pushing its way up through the crust where it settled and solidified below the surface – only to be subject at a later date to great pressures from earth movements and the heat generated by that. The original granites were completely altered by baking in the heat and by fracturing. The exact details of it all as translated into these rocks at Porthmeor are difficult to imagine,
