Detail of the oxidised redbeds of the Hopewell Cape Formation in New Brunswick

Hopewell Rocks 33 – Detail of the oxidised redbeds of the Hopewell Cape Formation, comprising alternating layers of conglomerate, sand stone and mudstone. These are terrestrial sediments that accumulated on flood plains around 360 million years ago, in New Brunswick, Canada, on the Bay of Fundy. Originally deposited in horizontal layers, they later became tilted at angles from 30 to 45 degrees by earth movements.
