It’s fascinating to contemplate how the ripples come to be. In this case it would appear water moving in at least two directions.

You are right. The waves often hit the shore from more than one direction. I have a short video clip of waves coming gently and shallowly ashore, illustrating what happens. I’ll see if I can find and post it.
