A few fossils at Mewslade Bay 23 – Fossil coral in Carboniferous Limestone on the beach at Mewslade Bay on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales.

  1. This is a much more interesting specimen. This too is a Dibunophyllum, but this time the body of the coral is seen in cross section. The zooid lived in the top centre of the body where it lived on detritus and marine debris. Very nice photograph.

  2. Thank you, Phil. It’s good to have confirmation of identification. Sometimes it is difficult to find the information I seek in the textbooks and references. You can’t always freely download academic papers from the internet and I have just joined the British Library so that I can occasionally go up to London and browse the publications there.
